Odds as of March 21st at BetMGM.

20-year old Iga Swiatek enters the tournament as the heavy favorite to win outright, as she’s coming off back-to-back WTA 1000 titles in Qatar and most recently, Indian Wells.

Swiatek’s on Fire

Swiatek is on a heck of a run at the moment. The young superstar will be entering the tournament on a 11-game winning streak, and will look to extend that with every match. Along with her 11-match win streak, she is also now ranked No. 2 in the world.

Entering Miami as the second seed, she does get a bye in the first round, and she’ll open her tournament up against either a qualifier or Viktorija Golubic. It’s really not until the third round that she’ll be really challenged.

With the ride that the 20-year old is on, it’s worth noting possible fatigue. Not only has Swiatek been winning, but she’s been playing a lot of tennis. There didn’t seem like there was a world where she wouldn’t be competing here in Miami, but it’s worth keeping an eye out on how she looks on the court, and if the fatigue could be getting to her.

Always Watch Maria Sakkari

The 26-year old Greek has had an impressive year in 2022 so far. She’s gone deep in tournaments and has come this close on many occasions. Since the St. Petersburg Open, she has had a semifinal appearance or better in all the tournaments she played in. She’s well on her way to winning.

And with her finals appearance at Indian Wells, she’s reached a new career high, rising to world No. 3. Up from No. 6.

Sakkari is the fourth seed in Miami, and in the third quarter, alongside Paula Badosa, Victoria Azarenka and Sloane Stephens. Sakkari receives a bye in the first round, and will look to open up against either Beatriz Haddad Maia or Nuria Parrizas-Diaz.

Now, it’s expected that Sakkari will win her quarter, and she most likely won’t be challenged until the later rounds, but she has a hump to get over in order to actually win one of these tournaments.

Other to Watch

With the third best odds to win outright, Anett Kontaveit is someone worth keeping an eye on. The third seed has an interesting path to the finals, which might not see her get tested until the third round where she could see Alize Cornet. But she could also get lucky and not truly be tested until the round of 16.

Kontaveit has a slightly easier route than some of her fellow players.

An additional person to watch is Paula Badosa. She is in a tough quarter, the third quarter, alongside Sakkari. But she could make a run, that would inevitably upset some players.

Best Bet

It’s hard to argue against Swiatek at the moment. She seems to be one of, if not, the most in form player on tour at the moment, and is riding a huge high. If she’s able to minimize fatigue, and allow herself to roll with the momentum, then she’ll be a tough opponent for anyone she faces.

But on a longer shot, Sakkari, once again can and should be in the conversation. There has to be a day she wins a tournament, and maybe it’s the Miami Open. We’ll have to see.

Best Bet: Swiatek (+450)

Longer Bet: Sakkari (+1400)
