We have seven games on Monday evening to kick off this week’s MLB action. Although it is not the busiest day of baseball, we can look forward to seeing several of the game’s best starting pitchers on Monday night. Max Scherzer, Corbin Burnes, Shane Bieber, and Walker Buehler will all be on the hill. If you are looking to raise the stakes on tonight’s slate, check out my top three player props.
Walker Buehler O/U 2.5 earned runs
The Dodgers’ ace makes his fourth start of the season on Monday evening. Buehler has not exactly looked like his typical self to start this season, with a 4.02 ERA. However, one of his starts came at Coors Field, where he only allowed two earned runs, and he averaged 2.5 earned runs in the other two starts. So Buehler has not been bad – he has just had a few hiccups to begin the year.
Facing the Arizona Diamondbacks may be exactly what Buehler needs to get back to his Cy Young caliber performances. The D-Backs currently are second-to-last in MLB in batting average (.189) and third-to-last in runs per game with just 3.06. Buehler also has a 2.63 ERA in four career starts in Arizona. Even at -150 odds, I am comfortable trusting Buehler to allow two or fewer runs to a team that averages just over three per nine innings.
Bet: Walker Buehler Under 2.5 earned runs (-150 at DraftKings)
Rafael Devers O/U 1.5 total bases
The 2021 Silver Slugging third baseman is off to a bit of a slow start to the season, reaching base at a mere .286 clip. Devers has failed to reach base more than once in seven consecutive games. The Sox will face two-time all-star Jose Berrios on Monday. Although Berrios has struggled to start the season, Devers does not exactly have strong career numbers against him. Lifetime versus Berrios, Devers is just 4 for 17 (.235 AVG) with zero walks. Given the fact that Devers has struggled to reach base multiple times in most of his games this season, I am comfortable taking him to record under 1.5 total bases, especially with this pitching matchup.
Bet: Rafael Devers Under 1.5 total bases (-135 at DraftKings)
C.J. Cron O/U 0.5 total bases
The Colorado first baseman is tied for second in all of baseball in total bases with 40. Cron is tied for the Major League lead in home runs with six and has reached base in 13 of his 15 games this season.
In 19 career plate appearances versus Phillies’ starter Kyle Gibson, Cron has slashed .267/.368/.467. The Philadelphia bullpen is also currently last in the Majors in ERA (4.57). Cron is among the league leaders in total bases, has reached base in almost every 2022 game, and should have the edge against the Philadelphia pitchers. I’ll take him to reach base tonight, even at -180.
Bet: C.J. Cron Over 0.5 total bases (-180 at DraftKings)
