We have more Opening Day games including some divisional matchups with teams that are looking to charge into the 2022 season. We featured a pitching rematch of an important playoff game last year that very well may be an exciting pitcher’s duel and another with one of the teams adding a lot of new and exciting players.

Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees (-1.5) O/U 8.5 (First Pitch 1:05 p.m.)
Gerrit Cole and the Yankees’ last game of the 2021 season was against the Red Sox, and their first game in 2022 will also be against Boston. In that winner-take-all Wild Card game, Cole only pitched two innings giving up three in the loss, so he will look to avenge that bad outing. Pitching at home will be a big benefit as Cole pitched six innings, allowing one run and five hits with 11 strikeouts in his lone start against the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium last year.
You wouldn’t believe the Yankees could add more power to their stacked lineup. Still, they made a move to trade Gary Sanchez and Gio Urshela to the Twins for Josh Donaldson to slide next to Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.
Nathan Eovaldi will get the Opening Day nod as Chris Sale is on the 60-day IL. The former Yankee has a history of success against his old team by allowing two earned runs or less in six of seven starts last year, including the Wild Card game win. The Red Sox were already one of the best offenses in the entire league, and they got even better with the addition of one of the hottest free agents in Trevor Story.
The under is 7-3-1 in the last 11 games with these teams. It will be a cold rainy day in the Bronx, and with these two pitchers, don’t expect to see much scoring.
Leg 1: Under 8.5 (-115)
Detroit Tigers vs. Chicago White Sox (-1.5) O/U 8 (First Pitch 1:10 p.m. ET)
The White Sox are in year two of the Tony LaRussa era and are looking to make a real charge after an early elimination in the playoffs in 2021. They were one of the best offenses in baseball last year as they were sixth in the league in runs scored (4.9 per game) and run differential (+147).
Lucas Giolito will get the Opening Day start for the third straight season, but the Chicago ace did not have a good track record against Detroit last year, going 0-3 in five starts with a 5.16 ERA.
Thankfully this team brings an electric lineup that includes Yasmani Grandal, José Abreu, and Luis Robert but will be minus Tim Anderson as he serves a suspension stemming from a fight last year.
The Tigers finished third in the American League Central, but it was a division where everyone but the White Sox ended the year under .500.
This team was very busy bolstering this club in the offseason, including signing Javier Baez, Tucker Barnhart, and trading for Austin Meadows.
Eduardo Rodríguez is another signee who will get the Opening Day start for the Tigers. He has a small but successful history against Chicago, posting a 2-0 record with a 3.60 ERA in five starts, striking out 34 in 31 innings. The knock on Rodriguez is when he’s on, he shuts down opponents, but he lacks consistency and will go on streaks of bad outings.
The White Sox and Tigers have gone over the total in two of the last three games when Giolito gets the start. With the history of Giolito against the Tigers, Chicago’s offense, and the inconsistency of Rodriguez, this game is primed for the over.
Leg 2: Over 8 (-105)
Eric Hosmer Over 0.5 RBI (+150) against the Arizona Diamondbacks (First Pitch 9:40 p.m. ET)
Hosmer and the Padres had a disappointing season in 2021 after so much hype. He has to be excited to see Merill Kelly on the mound as he has a history of success against him. Hosmer has a career average of .346, including a home run and six RBI against Kelly. Knocking in a run should not be a problem for him and help get San Diego their first win of the year.
Leg 3: Eric Hosmer Over 0.5 RBI (+150)
