Top MLB Betting Odds & Picks for Sunday, May 1 (2022)

We’ve made it to May and while there are still many questions regarding the baseball this season, at least we now have a solid sample size of stats to use for our bets.

I’m a guy that loves to bet off the last 30 days. We’re not quite at 30 days in the MLB but we’re inching closer. That excites me more than anything. The more stats, the easier things get when it comes to finding best bets. So here it goes. Here are my top three bets for today’s MLB slate.

Los Angeles Angels Moneyline (-120)

The White Sox will send out left-handed pitcher Dallas Keuchel. He’s way past his prime and has a 5.59 xFIP to start the season with just 11.9% strikeouts and 10.2% walks. Lefties have a wOBA of .607 in nine plate appearances while righties have a .344 wOBA in 50 plate appearances.

The top of the Angels order consists of some really good hitters between Taylor Ward, Mike Trout, Anthony Rendon and. Shohei Ohtani. Matt Duffy will also most likely be in the lineup and he has a .365 wOBA against lefties to begin the season.

The Angels are hitting 26.3% line drives against lefties this season using the projected lineup and have a BABIP of .367. We know that the Angels will put the ball in play against Keuchel, so that’s always a good sign.

On the other hand, Michael Lorenzen will take the hill for the Angels. He’s been pretty average this season but will take on a White Sox lineup that has been below average this season against righties. The White Sox have an ISO of .127 and wOBA of .239 against righties this season with 22.1% strikeouts and 4.3% walks. That’s not going to cut it. Take the Angels here.

Bet: Angels (-120 at DraftKings)

Rockies F5 Team Total (3.5, +115)

I hate betting Colorado games but I have no choice here. Well, I do have a choice, but I’m going for it. Hear me out. Reiver Sanmartin has been dreadful for the Reds this season. He has a 5.16 xFIP with 13.7% strikeouts and 9.6% walks. He’s also allowing a BABIP of .358 with 26.8% line drives.

He’s going up against a Rockies lineup that has a .399 wOBA with six of the nine hitters averaging a .382 wOBA or better against lefties this season. The Rockies are going to create a ton of havoc on the base paths and that’s going to result in many runs early against the Reds.

Bet: Rockies F5 Team Total Over 3.5 (+115 at DraftKings)

Yankees F5 Team Total (2.5, +100)

The Yankees have been electric offensively and are ganging up on poor starting pitching and relief. Today, the Yankees get Daniel Lynch, who has a 5.23 xFIP. He’s been much better recently but when he takes on this Yankees lineup, things will be different.

The Yankees have a .347 wOBA and ISO of .232 against lefties this season. Batters in the lineup to watch out for include DJ Lemajieu, Aaron Judge, Anthony Rizzo, Aaron Hicks, and Tim Locastro. They’ve all hit lefties at a high rate and are getting on base a lot because of it.

Lynch is much worse against righties with a .325 wOBA and ISO of .183. He’s facing eight righties and Rizzo, who is a lefty that crushes lefties. The Yankees should be in business.

Bet: Yankees F5 Team Total Over 2.5 (+100 at DraftKings)
