28 teams take the field today in Major League Baseball as we close out the first half of the 2022 season. The only two teams who won’t play are the Dodgers and Angels, who wrapped up a two-game Freeway Series last night. The Dodgers took both games and finished the first half on a four-game win streak. As for today’s action, a few notable matchups include a rubber match in the Bronx between the Red Sox and Yankees and the Mets going for the three-game sweep over the Cubs at Wrigley.
Here are my top three player props to close out the first half.

Shane Bieber O/U 6.5 Strikeouts
The Guardians look to complete the four-game sweep this afternoon and they’ll send Shane Bieber to the mound in the series finale. The Tigers opt for Tyler Alexander as they try to snap their four-game skid in this divisional clash scheduled for 1:40 p.m. ET.
Bieber seems to have taken a slight step back in terms of production relative to his 2020 Cy Young campaign. However, the right-hander has still been tremendous overall. Bieber comes in at just 4-5, but boasts a 3.24 ERA (27th) and 1.13 WHIP (26th).
The 27-year-old has faced the Tigers in 176 at-bats in his career and limited them to just 35 hits (.199). Over those 176 at-bats, he’s recorded an impressive 60 strikeouts. That translates to 34.1% of at-bats ending in strikeouts. Biebs has gone toe-to-toe with Detroit three times already this year, and he’s struckout 6, 5, and 10 batters in those three starts. I like for Bieber to bring his best stuff and close out the first half of the season with another outstanding performance. I’ll lock in the over on his strikeouts at an even-money payout.
Bet: Shane Bieber Over 6.5 Strikeouts (+100 via DraftKings)
Rhys Hoskins O/U 1.5 Total Bases
First pitch between the Phillies and Marlins is scheduled for 1:40 p.m. ET in Miami as Philadelphia goes for the three-game sweep. Aaron Nola gets the nod for the Phils while the Fish turn to Trevor Rogers.
Rogers hasn’t been great this season as he comes in at 4-8 with a 5.42 ERA and 1.58 WHIP over 17 starts. Furthermore, the southpaw has gotten clobbered this year against Philadelphia in two starts, posting an 18.56 ERA and 3.56 WHIP.
Rhys Hoskins has found a lot of success against the left-hander, going 7-14 (.500) against him with a trio of home runs and a double. The first baseman launched his 17th home run of the year in yesterday’s 10-0 win and he’s hitting .246 (100th) on the year. With his success against Rogers, I think this is a no-brainer to lock in at plus-money.
Bet: Rhys Hoskin Over 1.5 Total Bases (+120 via DraftKings)
Mike Clevinger O/U 5.5 Strikeouts
The Friars go for the three-game sweep this afternoon against the Diamondbacks at Petco Park. They’ll turn to Mike Clevinger to get them there while the Snakes go with Merrill Kelly in this divisional matchup slated for 4:10 p.m. ET.
Clev’s had an up-and-down season since finally returning from his elbow reconstruction surgery. He’s shown signs of brilliance and he’s had some clunkers, but ultimately comes into this one at 2-2 with a 3.79 ERA and 1.17 WHIP over nine starts.
Two of those starts were against the Diamondbacks and the right-hander limited them to just one earned run on six hits and three walks over 10.0 innings of work. Clevinger struck out nine Dbacks over the 10.0 innings. That’s about on pace for his season average, as he’s struck out 40 batters over 40.1 innings this year. It’s worth noting that Arizona has the 12th-most strikeouts this season at 777. I like for Clevinger to mow down the Snakes before heading into the break, so I’m going to lock in the over on his strikeout total.
Bet: Mike Clevinger Over 5.5 Strikeouts (+120 via DraftKings)
