Michael Johnson has opened as a slight betting favorite against Jamie Mullarkey in their July 9th bout.

Per the top UFC betting sites, The Menace is the -150 odds on favorite to beat Mullarkey who opened at +130 odds.

Johnson and Mullarkey have been booked to fight in the curtain-raiser of the main card at UFC Vegas 58 at the UFC APEX Facility in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event will be headlined by another lightweight clash between Rafael Dos Anjos and Rafael Fiziev.

Michael Johnson Blasts Alan Patrick

Johnson snapped a career-worst four-fight losing streak by blasting Alan Patrick with blistering combinations to earn a second-round KO at UFC Vegas 54 last May 14th. The win was Johnson’s first since a catchweight bout against Artem Lobov at UFC Fight Night 138 way back in October 2018.

The 36-year-old from St. Louis, Missouri is a former Midwest Fight League and Xtreme Cage Fighter lightweight champion. After competing for regional promotions, Johnson joined TUF 12 where he lost to Jonathan Brookins in the Finale. Johnson won seven of nine bouts from 2012 to early 2015 but has since just won four out of his last 13 bouts. Overall, Johnson has a record of 20-17 with 9 knockouts and two submission wins.

This will be the 8th time in his last 12 bouts where Johnson has opened with the plus money sign written next to his name. However, being the betting favorite has not necessarily translated to wins for the Menace. Johnson is just 4-8 during that span, winning only three times as a betting favorite.

Jalin Turner Puts Away Jamie Mullarkey

Meanwhile, Mullarkey saw his two-fight winning streak end at the hands of Jalin Turner who put him away in the second round of their UFC 272 bout last March 5th in Las Vegas. Prior to that defeat, Mullarkey produced back-to-back knockout wins against Khama Worthy and Devonte Smith.

The 27-year-old from New South Wales, Australia is a former BRACE featherweight champion and SuperFight MMA lightweight champion in Australia. Mullarkey joined the UFC in 2019 but suffered consecutive losses against Brad Riddell and Fares Ziam to open his UFC career. Overall, Mullarkey has a record of 14-5 with 10 knockouts and three submission victories.

Mullarkey will open as the betting underdog for the fourth time in six Octagon appearances. The Australian has shown that he can win despite opening with the plus money sign written next to his name. Mullarkey knocked out Worthy after opening at +165 odds. He however lost his other two bouts as the opening underdog.
