Latest 49ers vs Rams Injury Report, Final Game Statuses for NFC Championship – Garoppolo, Samuel, Kittle, Williams and More

  • San Francisco faces the LA Rams on Sunday (January 30th, 6:30 pm ET) in the NFC Championship Game
  • Jimmy Garoppolo, Deebo Samuel, and George Kittle are all expected to play, while Trent Williams is questionable
  • See below for the injury reports for both teams and how potential key absences could affect the outcome of this playoff game

For a time immediately after their NFC Divisional Round win over the Green Bay Packers, it looked like the San Francisco 49ers could be facing major injury concerns in the NFC Championship Game.

Fast forward a week, and the 49ers Injury Report looks about as promising as any Niners fan could have hoped. Starting QB Jimmy Garoppolo, explosive playmaker Deebo Samuel, and stud tight end George Kittle don’t carry an injury designation into Sunday’s game versus the Rams, while All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams is questionable.

As far San Fran’s opponent goes, the Rams Injury Report is free of any major injury concerns to star players, although a pair of starters are listed questionable as well.

49ers Injury Report

Player Position Injury Status
Trent Williams LT Ankle Questionable
Jeff Wilson Jr. RB Ankle Questionable

As of January 28th

Both Samuel and Kittle were seen limping around towards the end of last week’s game at Lambeau Field. However, both were full participants in practice all week, as was Garoppolo.

Jimmy G has been dealing with both a thumb and shoulder injury over the past month or so, but unlike previous weeks, he wasn’t limited at all this week in practice. That’s great news for a San Fran team looking to defeat LA for a seventh-straight time, but finds themselves as underdogs in the 49ers vs Rams odds.

The news isn’t as good for the 49ers left tackle Williams. The former 1st round pick is dealing with an ankle injury to the same ankle he hurt earlier in the season. Williams didn’t participate in practice all week, but remains adamant that he’s going to play versus LA.

Williams sat out the Niners must win contest versus the Rams with an elbow sprain in the regular season finale, despite mid-week optimism that he’d be able to suit up. Williams could barely put pressure on the ankle towards the end of last week’s game, and needed crutches following the contest.

If he’s unable to go, second-year tackle Colton McKivitz will take his place. The 25-year-old started in place of Williams in Week 18 versus LA, and impressed the team with his play.

The only other name on the San Francisco injury report is back-up running back Jeff Wilson Jr. He’s been active in both playoff games so far, but didn’t receive a single carry.

Rams Injury Report

Player Position Injury Status
Joe Noteboom OL Chest Doubtful
Van Jefferson WR Knee Questionable
Taylor Rapp S Concussion Questionable

On the Rams side, the team got some good news as left tackle Andrew Whitworth practiced in full on Thursday and Friday and is ready to protect Matthew Stafford and open up big holes for Cam Akers. That will come in handy for the 49ers vs Rams props. Whitworth missed last week’s win over the Buccaneers with a knee injury, and his return comes at an opportune time.

That’s because his backup Joe Noteboom suffered a chest injury versus Tampa Bay and hasn’t practiced all week. He’s officially considered doubtful, while wide receiver Van Jefferson and safety Taylor Rapp are questionable.

Jefferson is dealing with a knee injury, but did get two limited practices in on Thursday and Friday. If he can’t go, expect more snaps for rookie Ben Skowronek.

Rapp meanwhile, suffered a concussion in Week 18 against the 49ers and hasn’t played since. He got in three limited practices this week and LA could really use him in its depleted secondary.

The Rams are already without starting safety Jordan Fuller thanks to a season-ending ankle injury. His absence prompted them to go out and sign veteran Eric Weddle out of retirement. If Rapp can’t go again, expect more snaps for Weddle, Nick Scott and Terrell Burgess. Weddle and Scott earned the bulk of the playing time last week, with Scott intercepting Tom Brady in the first half.

How Injuries Could Affect 49ers vs Rams Betting Lines

Not to downgrade the impact that Williams, Jefferson, or Rapp could have on the game should they play, but their availability isn’t moving the point spread.

The Rams opened up as a 3.5-point favorite in the NFC Championship game, and that’s exactly where the line is expected to close. If we do see line movement, it will be the result of a significant amount of money coming in on one side or the other, not the status of the handful of players on the final injury reports.
