Knicks Now Have Shorter Odds than Jazz to Land Donovan Mitchell

Donovan Mitchell Knicks Background The Odds

  • The Donovan Mitchell trade market has gone silent in the last couple of weeks.
  • However, the latest odds board at Bovada now has the New York Knicks ahead of the Utah Jazz in the race for Mitchell’s services.
  • The Miami Heat, Brooklyn Nets, Charlotte Hornets, and Washington Wizards are the other teams listed in the latest betting board.

There isn’t much news on the fate of Utah Jazz All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell who has been linked to trade since Danny Ainge decided to blow up the team.

Last month, the New York Knicks were listed as the -105 betting favorites to land Mitchell if he was traded. However, the Jazz were still the -130 betting favorites to be Mitchell’s team during the 2022-23 season with the Knicks coming in second at +350 odds. In the latest Bovada odds board, however, New York is now the -200 favorite with Utah dropping to second at +200 odds.

Knicks Know No One is Coming Close to Them

There are more than five teams that are seriously interested in acquiring Mitchell right now, but according to a report from The Athletic’s Fred Katz, the Knicks know that no one is coming close to them in the Donovan Mitchell Sweepstakes right now. Not only has New York already been on the discussion table with Utah, but they may also be the team that can come up with the best package for the Jazz.

Initially, the Jazz reportedly wanted a package that included Immanuel Quickley, Obi Toppin, Quentin Grimes, Miles McBride, and six draft picks. That demand was said to have caused the Knicks to back away. But since that first demand, the two teams have talkies several times, including a pair of meetings that included a third team to facilitate the deal.

The teams have not been close to making a deal and the two sides have been silent in the last couple of weeks. But the fact that the Jazz and Knicks have met several times after their first meeting could be a sign that they are on the right direction with Mitchell allegedly preferring to play in New York next.

Heat Unwilling to Include Bam Adebayo in Mitchell Trade

The Miami Heat are next behind the Knicks and Jazz in the Donovan Mitchell odds board at +400 odds. The Heat have reportedly been eyeing a blockbuster deal involving Mitchell or the Brooklyn Nets’ Kevin Durant whom the team believes would be the last piece of their championship puzzle. However, the Heat have reportedly backed off after the Jazz wanted All-Star center Bam Adebayo as part of the deal. Right now, Miami is still interested in both Mitchell and KD but they have also set their eyes on Gordon Hayward as plan B.
Brooklyn at +1200 is next a the team still has both Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant despite the countless trade rumors involving their two stars. Irving has reportedly said that he wants to honor and finish his contract with the Nets but recent reports said that Durant has asked owner Joe Tsai to pick between him and Steve Nash plus Sean Marks. With Tsai publicly saying he stands by his coaching staff, Durant still is on the way out and Mitchell is one of the big names that could bring Brooklyn equitable value.

The Charlotte Hornets are next at +1400. Charlotte could be having issues with young star Miles Bridge in hot water due to personal issues. Gordon Hayward has a massive salary that could be used for matching purposes and the Hornets have young assets that the Jazz could covet. Meanwhile, the Washington Wizards at +1500 round up the betting board. The Wizards could have a hard time matching salaries but they have young assets like Kyle Kuzma, Rui Hachimura, and Deni Avdija whom the Jazz might like if they are going on a full rebuild.
