Khamzat Chimaev and Belal Muhamad are separated by only two spots in the UFC welterweight rankings. However, the best UFC betting sites don’t think that a fight between these two Top 5 welterweight contenders is as close.
Oddsmakers have installed Chimaev as a heavy -450 betting favorite to beat Muhammad who came back at +350 when the betting lines for their potential matchup opened on Thursday:

Both fighters went back and forth on social media and verbally agreed to fight in October in Abu Dhabi. The UFC hasn’t talked about the potential matchup yet but given the landscape of the welterweight division, it’s a likely fight and one that fans will surely enjoy.
Khamzat Chimaev Pushed to the Limit But Still Beats Gilbert Burns
— MMAFighting.com (@MMAFighting) April 10, 2022
Chimaev kept his unbeaten slate with a unanimous decision win over Gilbert Burns at UFC 273 last April 9th. However, it wasn’t as easy or dominant as his previous victories as he was pushed to the limit in a three-round slugfest against the tough-as-nails Burns. Chimaev won, but barely, and for a while, it looked like he and Burns were going to fight again in an immediate rematch. That didn’t happen.
The 28-year-old from Chechnya in Russia is one of the most heavily-promoted fighters in the UFC. But so far, Chimaev has lived up to the hype with five consecutive wins to start his UFC career. Four of those wins have been stoppage, including three inside the opening round. The no. 3 ranked welterweight in the UFC has an overall record of 11-0 with six knockouts and four submission victories.
Borz has opened and closed as the betting favorite in all of his UFC bouts. In fact, he’s never entered a professional MMA fight with the plus money sign written next to his name. Chimaev’s most recent bout against Burns opened as a pick’em fight with both fighters listed at -110 but Chimaev closed as the heavy -500 betting favorite to win the bout.
Belal Muhammad Rolling at 170
— Mike Bohn (@MikeBohn) April 17, 2022
Meanwhile, Belal Muhammad has been rolling in the 170-pound division. The former Titan FC welterweight champion is unbeaten in his last eight bouts with one no-contest and has the third current longest unbeaten streak in the division behind Kamarus Usman (15) and Leon Edwards (10). In his most recent bout, Muhammad exacted revenge on Vicente Luque, beating the Silent Assassin via unanimous decision at the main event of UFC Vegas 51 last April 16th.
The 33-year-old from Chicago Illinois has won three in a row against elite opposition, beating Demian Maia, Stephen Thompson, and Luque after his ill-fated bout against Leon Edwards which ended in a no-contest after he was unable to continue following an accidental eye poke. Overall, Muhammad has a record of 21-3 with four knockouts and one submission win.
Muhammad has opened as the betting underdog in a third consecutive fight. But despite closing as the bottom dog in his most recent two Octagon appearances, Muhammad emerged victorious in both contests. Against Luque the last time out, he opened at +180 odds and closed at +170 odds.
