Ji Yeon Kim Had a Brawl Against Priscila Cachoeira at UFC Vegas 49

The change in opponent could be a blessing in disguise for Kim who is in need of a win badly. The 32-year-old from Incheon, South Korea is coming off a brawl against Priscilla Cachoeira at UFC Vegas 49 last February 26th in a bout that won Fight of the Night honors in the event. Unfortunately for the Korean fighter, she lost the bout via unanimous decision, marking the third consecutive fight that she lost on points and the second straight that also won the Fight of the Night bonus.
A former Gladiator women’s bantamweight champion, Kim joined the UFC in 2017 after appearances at Kunlun Fight and Top FC. Unfortunately, she has struggled against the better opposition inside the UFC Octagon. After winning three out of her first five bouts, Kim has dropped her most recent three fights. Overall, she has a record of 9-5 with two knockouts and three submission wins.
This marks the third consecutive bout where she has opened with the minus money sign written next to her name. That, however, has not been a guarantee of success as Kim opened as the -190 favorite against Molly McCann and at -200 against Cachoeira. She lost both bouts via decision. She also opened as the -120 favorite in her UFC debut against Lucie Pudilova but also lost that bout via UD.

Meanwhile, Joselyne Edwards will look to get going after defeating Ramona Pascual via unanimous decision at UFC 275 just last June 11th to end a two-fight losing streak. That bout was fought at featherweight and Edwards will be moving down two weight classes to meet Kim at flyweight and will be doing so on short notice.
The 26-year-old from Panama City in Panama is a former Ultimate Combat Challenge women’s bantamweight champion in Panama and a KOTC women’s bantamweight champion in the U.S. before joining the UFC. Edwards defeated Wu Yanan in her UFC debut but dropped back-to-back decisions against Karol Rosa and Jessica Rose-Clark prior to her most recent bout. Overall, she has a record of 11-4 with five knockouts and three submission victories to her credit.
Edwards will be the betting favorite for only the second time in her UFC career. The first one was when she fought Pascual at -180 odds. Prior to that bout, Edwards’ shortest odds were at +130 when she lost to Jessica Rose-Clark at UFC UFC Vegas 41 last October 23, 2021.
