Drakkar Klose has been listed as the betting favorite for his short-notice bout against Rafa Garcia.

Klose was supposed to fight Carlos Diego Ferreira at UFC 277 but the latter was forced out of the event with an injury. Garcia agreed to step in and replace Ferreira at the July 30 event at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

Klose Stops Brandon Jenkins in Return

Klose stopped Brandon Jenkins with a ferocious onslaught that won him Performance of the Night honors at UFC Vegas 51 last April 16th at the UFC Apex. The bout was Klose’s first in two years as he recovered from a cervical neck sprain which he suffered when he was shoved by Jeremy Stephens at the UFC Vegas 24 weigh-ins.

The 34-year-old from South Haven, Michigan is a former Rage in the Cage lightweight champion who also fought under Tachi Palace Fights and RFA before joining the UFC in 2017. Klose won five out of his first six bouts inside the Octagon before losing to Beneil Dariush at UFC 248 in March 2020. Overall, Klose has a record of 12-2 with five knockouts.

Klose had opened as the betting favorite in half of his eight UFC bouts, winning all four fights, including at -260 odds when he fought Jenkins the last time. He was listed as the +132 betting underdog against Ferreira but with the former Legacy FC lightweight champion withdrawing from UFC 277, Klose is now favored to beat a replacement opponent in Garcia.

Rafa Garcia Chokes Out Jesse Ronson

Garcia also last saw action at UFC Vegas 51, where he choked out Jesse Ronson shortly after he was deducted a point for an illegal strike. The victory was the second straight for Garcia inside the Octagon after beating Nathan Levy on points at UFC Vegas 43. Prior to that, he lost back-to-back decisions against Nasrat Haqparast and Chris Gruetzmacher to open his UFC career.

The 27-year-old from Brawley, California was the inaugural Combate Americas lightweight champion. After defeating former UFC featherweight Humberto Bandenay in his first defense of the title, Garcia jumped ship to the UFC where he has posted a 2-2 record. Overall, he owns a professional MMA record of 14-2 with one knockout and eight submission victories.

This marks the third time in five UFC bouts where Garcia has opened as the betting underdog. Garcia hit the betting boards at +265 odds when he fought Haqparast at UFC Fight Night 187. He was also the +130 bottom dog when the odds for his UFC Vegas 43 bout with Levy.
