After opening at -300 odds in the expected UFC Paris main event on September 3rd, former interim UFC heavyweight champion Cyril Gane is now an even bigger betting favorite against Tai Tuivasa.
Online sportsbook BetOnline says that the Frenchman is now up to -500 while the Aussie is now listed at +385:

The odds movement comes less than 24 hours after the initial betting lines were released by the best UFC betting sites, indicating heavy betting action on the Frenchman which has caused his price to shorten.

The betting odds opened over the weekend after UFC journalist Ariel Helwani and MMA news outlet MMAJunkie reported that the UFC is zeroing in on its first-ever event in France and will be bringing France’s top UFC fighter along with them in the event. The event does not yet have a venue but UFC President Dana White already announced previously that an event in France is among the plans for 2022.
Gane was born in La Roche-sur-Yon in France and trains out of the MMA Factory in Paris. The 32-year-old Gane became the UFC’s interim heavyweight champion after defeating Derrick Lewis at UFC 265 in August 2021. He suffered his first career loss when he was beaten via unanimous decision by current UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in a title unification bout at UFC 270 last January 22nd.
A former TKO Heavyweight champion in Canada, Gane opened his career with an impressive 10-0 record, including six consecutive victories to start his UFC tenure. Three of those Octagon wins were via stoppage including a dominant third round TKO of the Black Beast. Gane has an MMA record of 10-1 with four knockouts and three submission wins.

Tuivasa meanwhile, is on a five-fight winning streak that has moved him up to no. 3 in the latest UFC heavyweight rankings. The 29-year-old from New South Wales in Sydney, Australia won his first three UFC bouts but then dropped his next three before his current winning run. In his last fight, Tuivasa also knocked out the durable Derrick Lewis inside two rounds at UFC 271 last February 12th and supplanted him in the rankings.
Seven out of Bam Bam’s eight UFC wins have been via knockout, including his last five. Five of Tuivasa’s seven UFC stoppages have come inside the first round. A former Australian Fighting Championship Heavyweight Champion, Tuivasa has a fearsome record of 14-3 with 13 wins coming by way of knockout.
This marks the longest odds of Tuivasa’s entire MMA career and only the second time where he’s seen the plus money sign written next to his name. The other instance was when he opened at +124 and closed at +165 against Derrick Lewis. Tuivasa opened at +250 odds last Saturday but is now a huge +385 betting underdog against Gane. Meanwhile, Gane’s current -500 odds are the second shortest of his career, with only his closing -625 against Tanner Boser better.
