Last season, the then-defending Super Bowl champions Buccaneers opened as a -9 point spread and -450 Moneyline favorites to beat the Cowboys on the road in the NFL Kickoff Game 2021. But instead of watching the Bucs open their title defense with an easy win, fans were treated to a duel between Tom Brady and the returning Dak Prescott.
Dak Prescott, playing in his first game back from injury, completed 42/58 passes for 403 yards with three touchdown passes. Prescott led the Cowboys on a 60-yard drive that ended in a 48-yard field goal by Greg Zuerlein to give Dallas a 29-28 lead in the closing moments of the game. However, with Dallas leaving Tom Brady enough time to showcase another installment of his Captain Comeback series, the GOAT delivered.
Brady engineered the 40th game-winning drive of his NFL career by setting up a 36-yard Ryan Succop field goal with two seconds left that gave the Bucs a hard-earned 31-29 win. Brady finished the game with 379 passing yards on 32/50 passing with 4 touchdowns, and more importantly, a “W” for the Buccaneers.
